Status : Preserved ( owner - Mr D Hurd, chairman of the Dean Forest Diesel Association ) Current Livery : BR black ( carries 13308 ) Name : Charlie
Notes : Fitted with screw couplings.
Built in 1956 at Darlington Works.
Withdrawn at Gloucester TMD on the 18th March 1984. Purchased from British Railways in November 1988, the then privately owned 08238, was taken away to Swindon Works for overhaul and repairs. January 1993, saw the shunter move to the Dean Forest Railway, where it was re-sold to Mr Hurd, the chairman of the DFDA.
On the 4th August 2009, its generator was removed and taken away for repairs. Whilst out of traffic, other repairs were seen to, plus work was started to repaint the loco. Currently, it is undercoat, with only the wasp stripes being added. At present, no decision has been made as to what will replace its previous BR black livery. It is hoped that the repairs will be completed in time, for the 08 to be back in traffic for use on hauling the santa specials at xmas.
