There has been a bit of confusion regarding 08393's whereabouts. The WNXX website suggest that it has been moved to Donny Carr, but a quite recent sighting was still showing it being at Peak Forest
As far as i'm aware though, it still remains in store, regardless of its location.
If it has moved away from PF, what is its replacement?
Don't know Phil. I'm not convinced that it has even moved.
I'll find out on thursday. Managed to blag a day off work then, so i'm heading for the hills to try and get some decent shots around PF. Hopefully, i will find out on 08393's situation and finally get a decent photo of it aswell. Dam thing keeeps avoiding me, whenever i'm up there. It's always hidden by wagons.
Also thinking of popping into Peak Rail and the Ecclesbourne Railway on the way up. So hopefully, it should be a good day out. Sure beats working anyway

Thanks to Alf's sightings, i can now confirm that 08393 is at Doncaster Carr.

with 08393 moving to donny it has left peak forest without a pilot. There is at the moment no plans to send a replacement. The 350 is at donny for a c-exam.

I'm not at all surprised, to be honest. I couldn't really see the logic of having an 08 there in the first place, especially as there is a industrial shunter in the same sidings.
It's all block trains out of Peak Forest anyway, so the 60's & 66's can shunt their own trains.
I've just had a look at the locations section, and i can't think of anymore that'll probably lose its allocation of a shunter.
With the small yards that handle mixed freight, eg - Goole, Boston Docks etc, they are safe for the forseable future, unless the traffic dries up.
Freightliner terminals are safe and will probably always be.
Marshalling yards are and will always be safe, with the likes of ADJ, Margam Knuckle, Hoo Junction, Bescot, Tees Yard, Mossend etc. Milford Junction would have maybe be the next one to lose its shunter, but with the trip workings to Knottingley it undertakes, i very much doubt that will happen.
Then you have the likes of March, Avonmouth, Didcot, Hinksey, Machen Quarry, Onllnwyn, Barry Docks etc. They would also appear to be safe, especially Avonmouth, Didcot, March and Hinksey. I do think the washery at Onllwyn is on borrowed time, maybe only having a few years left for rail operation. Maybe Martin could shed a bit of light on this one, as he might have a bit of local knowledge on it.
The future doesn't really look too bad for the rest of the shunters out there. There will always be more 08/09's put into store, but with Doncaster releasing more into traffic, it'll kind of even things up a little.

I've never seen 08523 moving at Onllwyn Washery yet. The workings seem to indicate that HTA and MEA sets are coming and going as block workings, so not sure why 08523 is needed. The FCA's for Mossend don't feature in this weeks timetable either. Onllwyn appears to be quite busy and with Parc Slip closing shortly should create more work for both Onllwyn Washery and Gwaun Cae Gurwen when it finally reopens. The MEA's are bringing coal into Onllwyn from Parc Slip and the HTA's are moving blended coal to Aberthaw Power Station and Immingham for blending with imported coal for Corus Scunthorpe. _________________ Regards
You say that you've never seen the 08 work yet. Does that indicate that the 66's shunt their own trains, or are you just unlucky not to see it move ?
I'm pretty sure that if 08523 was owned by EWS, not RMS, then it would have been moved away by now. Especially now, as Onllwyn doesn't seem to warrant having a shunter on site.

Loco pulls train into the loading pad 21 x HTA's, uncouples, runs round and drags train forward for loading with two shovels. _________________ Regards
