After spending nearly a year out of service at Margam, various faults and a main generator change were completed and it was moved to the nearby Knuckle Yard for testing. After successfully hauling 1500 tons, the EWS liveried 08 was transferred to Tidal around the 15th September 2007.

From Tidal and just over a year later, the morning of the 18th September 2008, saw 08466 loaded onto road transport and despatched to Margam for brake block changes. By the next day however, it was back at Cardiff Tidal.

Problems continued with the 08, as it was taken out of use at Tidal with an auxillary generator failure. On or around the 21st May 2009, 08466 left Tidal by road, being deposited at Margam shortly after. Whilst undergoing repairs, the long term stored 08770, donated its aux generator to get 08466 active again. Back on the road again exactly two months later, it left Margam, heading east out of South Wales on the 21st July, en-route to Toton for electrial repairs. With assessment completed, the 08 was transferred to store, moving from WSSI to WNTS on the 19th August, while the repairs were carried out.
