After previously piloting Washwood Heath earlier in the year, at Saltley L.I.P and out of use, 08540 was stored WNTR on the 2nd July 2004. Dumped in the depot complex for just over 2 months, it was reinstated to traffic and the WRWM pool on the 22nd September. The next day, it was removed by road and deposited at the IRFT, Daventry. On the 1st October, it failed whilst being used as the FLT pilot. Due to Cotswold Rail taking over shunting duties there, a decision was made to put the 08 back into store, moving once again to the WNTR pool. Road transport arrived on the 8th October, and the EWS liveried shunter was removed to Bescot, to where it was unloaded, shortly after. Four days later, it was back on the road again, leaving the West Midlands for Toton on the 12th. On arrival, the stored 08 was consequently dumped in the compound.

Currently resides in the compound at Toton.
