Whilst at the Freightliner terminal at Dagenham, 08646 was stored WSXX on the 4th April 2004, suffering from unknown faults.

Left Temple Mills on the 6th December 2006 and a day later, it was deposited at Margam.

By the 6th May 2007, 08646 was due to undergo a D exam, but continuing problems with the No.1 cylinder liner passing oil, it was placed on decision early July. Repairs were finally completed during August and was transferred to Tidal Sidings, Cardiff. By the September though, it was back at Margam for more attention. With the completion of its repairs, early October saw it back in traffic, operating in the nearby Knuckle Yard.

In early April 2008, 08646 was back inside the TMD, undergoing more repairs / attention. With repairs completed a while later, 08646 was back operating in the Knuckle Yard.

Unfortunately though, it was hauled back in the depot area at Margam, suffering from a bent side rod. After assessment, on the 4th March 2009, 08646 was stored WNTS, pending repairs.
