Withdrawn in September 1987 at Motherwell TMD, the 08 was quickly re-sold on to the Glasgow based, J G Russell LTD. Moving to its sister group, Deanside Transit LTD, in the October, the BR blue liveried shunter, was moved to Hillingdon, situated a few miles West of Glasgow.

Because of the decline in rail traffic at Hillingdon, all four shunters at Deanside Transit, sat out of use for quite a while. A decision was made, that the 08's were to be moved to Long Marston for a possible overhaul and safe storage, before being returned back to Scotland. 08728 became the 3rd of the fleet to be transferred South, the move happening on the 19th June 2007. Due to the condition of the loco though, it was not cost effective to recieve an overhaul, so it was stored with the rest of the shunters.

During its stay, the ownership changed hands, and Motorail Logistics became its new owner. After being resold on for scrap, 08728 left Long Marston on the 4th November 2009. Leaving by road in the morning, it headed north to Rotherham, to where it was deposited at CF Booth's, early afternoon. The next day, the near enough empty shell of the 08, was broken up and scrapped.
