Withdrawn September 1987 at Motherwell TMD. After withdrawl from BR, 08736 was quickly purchased by J G Russell LTD. Moving to its sister group in the October, the 08 arrived at Deanside Transit LTD, being deposited at its Hillingdon site, Glasgow.

Because of the down turn in rail traffic at Deanside Transit, 08736 was the first of the four shunters on site, to leave. Taken away by low loader, and leaving Scotland on the 23rd May 2007, it was deposited at its new home at Long Marston, the following day. Whilst there, it was originally due to recieve an overhaul, before being returned back home. After assessment and because the condition of the shunter was too poor, it was deemed to not be cost effective, so it was dumped amongst the rest of the stored locos.

On the 4th November 2009, and after being dumped at Long Marston for well over two years, 08736 was finally removed by road. Leaving Warwickshire for Rotherham, the BR blue liveried 08, was taken north to CF Booth's for scrapping. Within just under two weeks, the inevitable happened, and the former Motorail Logistics owned shunter, was disposed of on the 20th November.
