Whilst at Temple Mills, 08921 was placed in store, transferring to the WNTS pool on the 11th November 2004.

Previously at Cardiff Tidal, 08921 was taken away on the 2nd June 2007 to Crewe EMD for repairs to its shifted cranks. By the 2nd December, it was back in South Wales, being deposited at Newport ADJ.

Sometime during the 2nd week of June 2008, 08921 left Newport and was deposited at Cardiff Tidal Sidings. On the 18th June, it left Tidal and was taken by road to Margam TMD. On the 30th June or the 1st July, it left South Wales by road and was taken south to St. Blazey. It was then forwarded to Fowey Docks by 66127 on the 2nd July. With it reported to be suffering from shifted cranks at Fowey, 08799 was sent down from Doncaster Carr for cover or to act as a permanent replacement. On the 29th August, 08921 was deposited at Wigan Springs Branch for repairs / attention. Whilst at Springs Branch, 08921 was officially put into store on the 29th October.

The 29th April 2009, saw 08921 transferring pools, moving from WNTS to WNTR. Sometime around the 23rd July, the shunter was hauled inside the shed, and work got underway to remove its remote control equipment. It has been rumoured, that it is to be donated to Toton's 08495. Reinstated to traffic on the 19th September, the EWS liveried 08 moved pools, leaving WNTR to the active fleet management WFMU. On the 1st October though, 08921 was returned to store and WNTR.
