Can someone explain what the differnet colours (red, blue and grey) mean in the loction lists?
If they are hightlighted in red, it means the loco has just moved to that particular location. After about a week or so ( or when i remember ), it gets changed to blue, which is the long term location colour.
The grey colour indicates that it has been scrapped.
Clears it up a little, like a puddle of mud
I notice in your profile that you're after 08644. I would get yourself down to Doncaster pretty sharpish, before it gets taken inside Wabtec. To my knowledge, it is still parked outside the buildings, and it can only be seen from the canal towpath, which runs in between Wabtec and the prison.
How do I get to the path?
Can you supply a map? (or directions might work at a pinch)
Is 08644 photoable? (that would really annoy my mate)
How long will it be there for? (I can't get down before this weekend at the earliest as the university wouldn't be very happy if I missed lectures)

To make it a bit easier for me, let's presume you are going by car, and you have parked in the multi-storey, which overlooks the station.
On the exit to the car park, turn left at the traffic lights and proceed up to the roundabout. Take the 2nd exit ( A19 ), going over the river and railway. At this point, keep in the left hand lane, as you need to take the 1st exit at the next island.
From here, you will be in North Bridge Road. After about 300 yards, turn 1st right, signposted Marshgate prison, and follow the road and park up at the bottom. There are a couple of parking spaces available on the road itself, aswell as around the area.
Before you leave you car though, make sure everything of value is in the boot, as this isn't the best of areas.
Just before the towpath, there's a public footpath sign on your right. Follow this, keeping to the left as you cross the footbridge. The Wabtec building can be seen from here, backing onto to the river. As you continue along, keep a look out for any shunters that are parked up in the comlex. When the prison walls come to an end, 08644 might come into view, when the Wabtec buildings end.
I say might, because there will be lorry trailers littered about, maybe blocking your view. Walking time from your car, roughly 10 mins. All i can say is, i wish you the best of luck.
If on foot, i'm not sure whether you can walk straight through the bus station. If not, you need to go through the shopping centre. Which ever route you take, you need to come out on the bus only route, which from the north end of the station, is the first bridge that spans the mainline. Once crossing the railway, go down the spiral staircase and then head for the public footpath ( as above ). Don't go on the proper towpath though, as this doesn't lead anywhere.

Mmm, that all depends on when your going. If it's a weekend, then it'll probably be partly hidden by lorries. With a bit of luck, these lorries will have gone during the week, so the 08 could possibly be photable. It just comes down to luck really.

Well, its been there since the 11th November, and the guys at Wabtec ain't known for the swiftness at overhauling a loco, so i would say you'll have a good couple of months yet
No rush !!
On this site, it was the 27th January. There hasn't been any photos on fotopic taken at Wabtec, and i've not seen any sightings on any other sites. From the people i've spoken / emailed to, there are very few who know about the towapth, so that might explain the lack of sightings. Then again, it might well have been taken inside by now
The towpath was common knowledge when Donny Works was fully active - you could normally see alot of stored stuff round the back of the works - 08/20/31/47/ etc
I was there yesterday and all I could see over the lorries was the top of a Freightliner coal hopper. Another trip now planned. Still the day wasn't wasted as I copped 2 other 08's along with some other stuff.

It might have been taken inside then Simon. Given that it's there for an overhaul, i don't think it'll be ready for traffic, well into the summer.

Another trip planned for tomorrow, hopefully this time I can see more than a large fleet of lazy lorries, Can somebody find some work for the company to do so that the lorries have to go out and do some work, leaving a clear view.
Monday's trip was put off until today. There were no lorries in the way this time but still no sign of 08644. Can anybody confirm that it has gone inside?
Can't confirm it, but i would say it's most likely. Have you had a look into Wabtec from the multi storey car park ? You might see it from there, especially if it has been brought round from by the lorries.

I tried from up there as well, only 762 and 669 were visible from there.
