It has only recently come to my attention, that 08012 has left Tyseley and its new home is that of the Cambrian Railway Trust in Oswestry.

To complement that, a new section has been added, together with the website address for access to directions and details.

I've now also added Marcroft wagon works to the section, due to the small industrial shunter and 08714, outbased there.

Went up to Marcroft, sorry Axiom, last week.

The little turning off the A500 can be a bit hit and miss whether the gates are open are not, altho there is space to pull off the road if they are shut.

However, a bit of climbing up the embankment is needed to get round the fence if they are shut (the fence doesn't cover the whole stretch of land).

But, the footpath mentioned is separated from the parking spot by a 6ft steel, spike-topped fence - and the hole in it where people can climb thru has now been repaired.
(The 08 can sometimes be seen through the trees from the parking area, but a positive view or picture are nigh-on impossible).

The best way to access the footpath now is to stay on Whieldon Road, past the entrance to Axiom, and after passing under the railway, take the fourth right into Beech Grove and immediate left into Kemball Avenue (postcode ST4 4LD).
Park at the end of the road and walk across the football pitches to the far corner, to pick up the footpath, which goes over the end of the Axiom yard, offering excellent views.

Just in time for the Neville Hill open day, the directions have now been completed for Crossleys scrapyard in Shipley, just in case anybody wants to visit while in the area.

http://shunterspot.myfreeforum.org/about1679.html

Also, the MoD bases will be added shortly, time permitting. If there are anymore directions that you like me to add, please let me know in this thread.

Alternatively, if anybody would like directions for places which doesn't have a shunter, like Fairwater Yard for example, PM me and i'll see what i can do  Cool

There is another vantage point-at the top of the road past Morrisons is a multi-storey car park-if you go to Level 2 or higher, views of the Depot's northern end can be gained from here.Couple of shots from here attached.

There are holding sidings adjacent to the station that can be viewed by walking through the station car park to its most southernly point and from the aforementioned footbridge.

From the southern end of the car park the holding sidings adjacent to the main line can be viewed,as they can by leaving the car park and following the road for 1/2 mile, turning right and viewing from the rail bridge crossing the line(photo attached shows the bridge in the top left corner)
