Bescot

With needing a piccy of 08393, Bescot was our first stop this morning. How disappointed was i, when this and others, were not photographable.

There were two at the B'ham end of the shed, but the re-railing coaches were blocking the view. On the far line though, nearest the houses, stood 08538, 08842 and another EWS 08, but i couldn't identify this one. For those interested, the coaches were 975574, 975613 & 975611.

Other locos on view, were 66199 & 67029 at the rear of the shed. 66065 & 66142 stabled in the engineers yard and 66147 arrived 11:34 with Network Rail bogie ballast wagons.

Bardon Hill

Looking through TOPS, 3 of the F/Liner 66's i need, were going to be here, so Bardon Hill was next. I was hoping to photograph the industrial shunters, but couldn't get access to the quarry. Still, i copped 3 out of the 4 66's, so it wasn't all bad  Cool

66507, 519, 604 and 953, were here, parked by the level crossing.

Toton

Not really keen on visting Toton, mainly because it's so dam windy on the bank. Plus, it is such a pain, trying to id the rows & rows of locos. But, with a couple of new shunters arriving in the last month, i needed to go, so i did !

In the compound, were the usual stored 08540, 593, 689 and 09013. 08405 was busy shunting ballast and engineers wagons, adjacent to the mainline. In the headshunt, stood the Departmental grey liveried, 08918.

The A52 end of the shed, was packed as per usual. Viewing the shunters, did prove to be a little difficult. 08480 moved a class 60, which in turn, opened up 08466 for viewing. This has most of its roof panels missing, so i would imagine it'll be at Toton for a few more weeks.

08561 could also be seen, but only its roof. As this is the only blue liveried 08 at Toton, that wasn't too difficult to spot.

For the few i did manage to see, there were loads missing - 08495, 701, 757, 783, 784, 804, 951 and 09009. I couldn't be bothered about going onto the A52 though, so i suppose i might've chalked a few of them off.

Derby

For me, Derby's a bit like Toton. I'm not overly fussed abouth going here either. But, i do need photos of some of the shunters, so i thought i'd give it a go.

We first tried the industrial estate, which backs on to the rear of Bombardier Works. Phil, you'll be pleased to know, it was sodding empty  Very Happy

Off to the retail park was next, for viewing the rear of Etches Park and RTC. 08417 was parked next to the side of the RTC buildings, but i couldn't get anywhere near for photograph it. Shame that, cause my one and only photo of this, is crap  Confused

Driving down one of the service roads, by the retail park, did bring some much needed look, as 08899 was parked by the rear of Etches Park. No sooner as we got out of the car, some bod came speeding towards us in a van. He turned out to be a right pillock, as he said he was part of some security and we shouldn't be here. Quite rightly, my old man asked him where the signs were, telling us it was private property. The chap pointed to one particular sign, which said something like " no parking, as you will be clamped. "  While them pair were arguing, i grabbed a quick photo of 08899, which i'm quite pleased about, given the rush i was in. He didn't win the argument, and when he realised we were spotters, he commented on us getting a life, and buggered off.
http://i1008.photobucket.com/albums/af210/concretebob/08899.jpg

Another stroke of luck, was at Litchcurch Lane. Intially, we were after 378006, one of the new units which is next to leave. But, while getting a picture of this, the old man noticed 08682 parked over the other side. Not needed for sight, but did for a photo. None of the Derby Bombardier 08's are easy to view, let alone photographing them, so i took full advantage of this one. I am proud to say, that i've now completed my Bombardier 08, all 3 of them  Cool Laughing

LH Group

Last stop before home, was the LH Group. It has been a while since my last visit, and with 08730 arriving, i thought today was a good as day as any.
08077 is still dumped at the far end of the yard, keeping four industrial shunters for company.
In the building complex, 08785 is parked next to the path, on its own. Alongside that, is 08691 and 08730, which is nearest the building. On the furthest line, stands 08823 ( D3991 ) and the long standing resident, 08891  Rolling Eyes

Bit disappointed not to see 08873 here, as i still need this one for a piccy  Crying or Very sad

All in all, not a bad. A few cops, a bit of sun, and us stuffing the Aussies   Cool   Razz

Good write-up Steve.

Can you be more specific with directions at Etches Park...where is this new retail park? Is it down Deadmans Lane?

Haven't been down there for ages as they errected a security gate at the start of the road that runs parellel to the long Etches Park shed.

Also, could you take a stab at whether you think 08730 will move before next Sat? Out of all the shunters there, it looks like it's in the best phottable position!

It is on the opposite side of the mainline to Deadmans Lane. Come out of here and turn left onto London Road, take the first exit at the island, and follow over the railway. Along this road ( A6 ), there are 2 islands which you can take, all of which lead you towards the back end of Etches Park. There is a 3rd, but this just takes you round the back of the station.

Turning left at the first island and then left again, will take you towards the rear of the Etches park shed, albeit on the opposite side of the mainline. From here, you may be able to see into the RTC complex. It all depends on whether there are any Meridans stabled.

At the 2nd island, again turning left, you have about 2 or 3 roads you can take. Following the link below, Mallard Way was where 08899 was taken from. Buildings have now been built along here, but it still gives you some decent vantage points. Again, like the first one, if there are no Merdians, you can see into RTC.

Visting during the weekend will be the best bet, as there is hardly anybody about. I wouldn't recommend going during the week though, as there will be too many people about, and you will be needing to drive / park on their property.

You should be ok. I would imagine it'll be in exactly the same position, cause the staff don't seem to have a rush in them  Rolling Eyes

Today I went up to Derby.
So saw
Barton Under Needwood
08785
08691
08826
08891
08730

Derby
08602
08682
08846

08602/682 where parked outside the Bombardier shed. While 846 was working, got lucky seeing these 2.

Bescot

Most of the load which was there.

08393 and 709 where outside the shed.
08538/842/886 under the flood light behind the wagons on the back of the yard. Just to the right of the stored 08's and 37's.[/b]

Have the re-railing coaches being moved then, due to you seeing 08393 and 08709?

I knew 08709 was the one parked behind the coaches, but couldn't properly id it. 08393 must have been the one parked behind the little bricked building, just outside the shed. Obviously, i couldn't id that one either.

Me and PP (Pork Pie) went to Toton, just a couple of questions:

1). There was a plain red 08 outside the shed in front of a blue 08. Was this 488?
2). On roads 13 and 14 (in the shed) were two shunters which look reddish. Long shot I know, but any IDs?

Plain red  Shocked

Wouldn't have been 08488, as this was scrapped back in April 1991  Rolling Eyes

The only one's i can come up with, which would be like a plain red, would be 08701 and 08757, both of which are in the RES livery. 08561 is the blue one, if you couldn't id that one.

Inside the shed, one would most likely to be 08951. The other however, could be either 08804 or 08495. I can't realy be any more specific than that Dan, soz.

I believe that 08653 has departed Bescot during last week ! Twas parked round the back Friday morning I think it was? Evidence of lorry tracks on Saturday when I went to work.

Only the south end pway shunter left at Bescot now, its booked to work all the yards as & when ! 08886 still inside. 75t Breakdown 96710? inside the shed. C&W still use various 08s for shed shunting .

Mmm, i can't quite fathom where this one could be heading. Bit of head scratching going on here Confused

I thought this had been moved away from the shed, sharing the same line with 08538 and 08842.
