06/09/09 Toton & Derby

Went to Toton to see 08397 after hearing it had moved from Allerton.  Here is a list of shunters positively identified

Toton Compound
08540 08593 08689 09013

Yard
08405

Depot
08466 08480

Headshunt
08918

Next to the Balfour Beatty place
08397 - had fun getting to see the number on this, had to clamber up the other side of the A52 dual carriage way but was worth it as also got a nice clear view for a phot (will send it over to you later in the week!)

In front of the depot also saw the blue shunter (08561), behind the DVT was an EWS and a RES liveried pair and there was a 3rd unidentified shunter in amongst the 60s & 66s.

At Derby saw D3849 and 004 from Litchurch Lane and could see the top of 08417 on RTC and 08899 next to Etches Park shed.

Thanks
Paul

The Balfour Beatty place, is that the one by the entrance to the depot ?

Just looked on Google maps and it is the one on the road down from the depot entrance.

No phot of RES shunter as I could only see the top of the loco, though did look like part of the roof was missing.

Arr, thought so. That is where the locos get loaded / unloaded.

I was on about a piccy of the shunter in amongst the 60's & 66's, not the RES ones  Rolling Eyes

As of note, i was going to Toton & Derby today, but getting stuck in traffic on the motorway, is not my idea of fun. Took me 2.5 hours to do one chuffin' junction, so couldn't be arsed in the end, and come home.

Hijacking the thread a little, i did start of at Shackerstone, but i couldn't get anywhere near the place. For starters, the main gates were locked, and the roads were heaving with cars, littered all over the place. There was some carnival of some sort going on, and the red arrows were flying over. Believe it or not, there were some people standing on their bonnets, filming the planes. And they've got the nerve to call us sad  Mad  Rolling Eyes

At Market Bosworth, were 12083, 08825 and 03180. On to Bardon Hill, where 14029 ( D9529 ) was stabled, alongside one of the company's own ind shunter. Then i made the mistake of joining the bloody M1  Confused

Sorry got confused there.  Again could only see the top of the loco, the only clues being it looked like a light grey roof and had been 'tagged'.

Thought I saw the Red Arrows in the distance from Toton bank.

I was lucky on the M1 as I passed the accident not long after it had happened at J23a.  Looked like a car had got off the side of the road.  On the way back from Derby you could see they were carrying out accident investigation work, but why they shut the whole motorway for as long as they do is beyond me.

Steve-I saw the Red Arrows at Swanage and took over 50 phots-bloody impressive.

However,I know I'm sad Very Happy

08397 Thanks

08389 ex Warrington has joined 08397 in the Balfour Beatty yard.

For those that don't know, they're being unloaded in the BB yard while the A52 bridge is being cleaned/treated, will be back to the paintshop loading area soon.

EDIT :
Are plugs/info shots allowed ?
A few pics of them both here : http://www.todaysrailways.fotopic.net/c1752279.html
