On the 5th March 2004, 08632 was used for a trip working between Hardendale Quarry and Harrison's Sidings, due to EWS looking to use an 08 instead of the usual loco. This movement was only used as a trial period though. On the 19th April, 08632 was once again pressed into service, hauling an empty rake from Hardendale to the Harrison Sidings, situated just a few hundred metres north of the quarry. Network Rail objected to this move becoming permanent though, as the speed of the 08 is to low to be used on the mainline. With this movement temporarily suspended, 08632 was put into store on the 25th April, still at Hardendale. The same day, it was removed by road and taken south, down the M6 to Allerton for further storage. On the 26th June though, its reprieve came in the shape of a move to Wolverhampton steel terminal. It arrived in the West Midlands late morning, replacing the out of use and stored 08714. The next day, 08632 was reinstated to traffic and the WSWM pool.
Latterly working at Wolverhampton Steel Terminal, was taken away by road sometime around the 26th June 2008 and deposited at Bescot for repairs / attention. On the 6th July, 08632 was officially put into store at Bescot TMD.
Repairs now all completed at Bescot, 08632 has been reinstated to the WSSN pool and traffic on the 25th February 2009. Loaded and removed from Bescot, sometime around the 30th September, 08632 left the West Midlands for Daventry, being unloaded at the Freightliner terminal shortly after.
Update: Leaving the FLT mid morning, 08632 was transported the short distance to Toton on the 17th December, arriving in the East Midlands, during a snowy dinner time.
