i wonder who you took that post off it was me and it would be nice of you to ask before you repost my message.
Anyway 08653 has been moved from Crewe Electric to Warrington Arpley today will send photos to concrete bob in next couple of days and then the Low Loader is going to Allerton to pick up 08397 and another Low Loader is going to pick up 08954 tomorrow and then take them Toton so that will empty the last of the locos out of Allerton

cheers

Dave-thanks for your update-unaware that you were member of forum or would have waited until you had posted.

If people post on the internet,I was of the impression it was for the benefit of all-always respect the wishes of those who ask directly for info not to be passed on(no request on your original posting to this effect).

Failing that,I would pass on any info I receive for the attention of those who I feel might benefit.

In this case, the news that Allerton might be losing a long stored shunter(glad to hear that it is in fact two)is,I feel, information members of a Shunter focussed forum would be interested in,hence my posting earlier his evening.

In the circumstances, wished the info came from yourself first.

Regards Martin

For future postings, if the gen has come from another source, can we please credit the said person.

Getting back to the topic in hand, thanks to both of you for pointing out the arrival of 08653. Ian ( Lateliner ) had mentioned in another thread, that tyre tracks had been witnessed at Bescot sometime around the last week in August. He did say that 08653 may have left, but other reports suggest that it was still at Bescot.

Interesting to see that Dave has mentioned the 08 coming from Crewe Electric. Who has actually given you that info Dave, cause if that is right, then Ian's posting could be correct. Quite why it would need to go to Crewe though, is a bit baffling, as it has not long had an C exam completed at Bescot.

It would tie in with the dates though, with Ian saying that it might have left Bescot towards the end of August, and it arriving at Warrington on the 4th. It has had time to have a quick going over at Crewe, before heading off to Arpley.

Also interesting to hear that the Allerton shunters are to be moved on aswell. This has been on the cards for a while now, especially for the 2 stored 08's anyway. With all three going, i wonder what the future holds for the depot now. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the land has been sold on and the depot gets demolished, as they can't have much work on.

The driver of the lorry told me 08653 had been picked up from Crewe Electric and it had no conrods on when it arrived at Warrington so i dont know where they have gone unless they came earlier.

Also Allerton has been brought buy a housing company so they are gradually emptying it out of locos and wagons and how many 08s are there and what numbers are they the two i know off are 08397 and 08954  but 08397 has know gone to Toton

cheers

After 08954 leaves, there will still be 09007, which is the depot pilot. I won't be sad to see Allerton flattened though, as it has to be one of the hardest depots to view. I would imagine the 09 will stay till all the wagons have gone, cause obviously, the staff will have nothing to shunt with  Confused

I have been to Allerton 3 times and got round each time! The two most recent times - 1) Feb 04 - the depot manager was an Everton fan and I had a woolly Everton hat on (which helped!) and 2) Feb 05 - there was no-one there to ask so just went round and then left!
Previously to that was Aug 89 when it was a proper working depot. The depot had a long line of 08's inside:

Made a nice photo which i must upload!

08653 has gained the conrods off 08389 i think which has been transferred to Toton after it failed at Warrington 3 times in a week with the same fault but cant remember what it was and 08954 has been moved from Allerton but hasnt arrived at Toton yet as off this morning

Had an overnight stop-over near Warrington, so it would've continued to Toton around mid morning.

I'm sure he will tell you more, but Craig is a driver, so i wouldn't thought access would be a problem.

As for grabbing a piccy of the 08's, i think the start of Bessell Lane would be ok, as long as you have a good zoom lens. Saying that, Paul has sent me a cracking photo of 08397, which in his words, had to clamber up the other side of the A52 dual carriageway, but was worth it, as also got a nice clear view for a phot.

I've yet to upload the photo, but will do in the next day or so.

It is beyond the gate, I was able to grab a few shots when I was leaving work this morning.

As concrete bob said tho', you can get a shot from the A52.... if you're brave !  or from Bessel Lane, although there is a fence in the way fom that angle.

08389 had worn main generator bearings. Regarding 08653 it was given an exam at Bescot but was then found to require tyre turning hence it's move to Crewe ETD.
