08701 left Tyne Yard on the 29th November 2006 for South Wales. It was intially thought to be Margam bound, but, in early December, it was deposited at the Ford plant in Bridgend.
By January 2008, 08701 left Wales for the West Midlands, being unloaded at Bescot, where it spent nearly 3 months until leaving for Daventry in late February.
With the arrival of 08393 at DIRFT, 08701 was removed by road to Bescot on the 13th January 2009, from where it received repairs. After completion, it was released on the 27th January, taken away on a low loader to Hams Hall FLT, replacing the former pilot, 08653. On the 6th August, 08701 was removed from Hams Hall by road, being unloaded at Toton the following morning. With a probable exam to take place, the RES liveried shunter will have a possible stint in store while it recieves repairs. As expected, upon arrival in the East Midlands, the 08 was stored WNTR, replacing its former WSSN pool. With the completion of its repairs / exam, 08701 was made available to traffic, being reinstated on the 19th September, moving from WNTR to the WFMU pool. On the 1st October though, it was transferred back to store and WNTR.
