08730noted 08730 on a low loader A50 eastbound Uttoxeter at 07:15 this morning 19/08/09. Does anybody know where this might heading? as i would like to get a photo.

I can only really come up with three possibilities.
With it being part of the Railcare Group, Wolverton could be one of its destinations. This is unlikely though, unless either 08629 or 08649 have been moved.
Ilford could be another possible, but this would be only for tyre turning. The third could be Wembley, but like Ilford, this would be for tyre turning.
I'm guessing, but given the direction it was heading, i'll go for Ilford. Be a strange move though, because i would imagine Glasgow Works has the facilities for tyre turning.

Watching this one with interest-not seen for seven years.
Made the mistake of going to Glasgow Works on a Saturday when last north of the border and the trading estate/council yard was locked up so no view of the yard.
Strange move this one-popped down the yard at Westbury and definately not gone there

Tesco car park would've been your best bet. The ind estate /units are a bit hit and miss, as you found out. All that way eh, and no shunter

If through Uttoxeter it normally means LHGS,Barton

Yeah-804 mile round trip to be precise-also it chucked it down when we were walking out from our hotel so got soaked as well
Anyhow, rather than taking the p*** out of me,why aren't you calling your contacts to find out where the bugger has gone

Re: 08730 | 37898 wrote: | | If through Uttoxeter it normally means LHGS,Barton |
That was my initial thought, but why would the LH Group be overhauling / repairing a shunter which comes from somewhere which does exactly the same thing ?
Besides, i don't think they have the room. I did have a text this morning, saying that 08873 is on its way to Barton, and 08531 going to Trafford Park. It might be right regarding 08873, but i very much doubt that Freightliner wouldn't need two shunters working the FLT.

I have done. No sod knows

Just a thought here fellas but as the OP hasn't mentioned the colour of said shunter at Uttoxeter could it have been 08703 en route to DR rather than 08730

Passed LH Group on train yesterday and nearest the line was a shunter that looked very much like 08730 (light grey top and dark grey/black bottom half) so perhaps it did end up there.
Cheers

08730 is not owned by Railcare Glasgow, thats why LHGS have it to overhaul.

Chased this three times to Glasgow in last eight years (last 08 for sight)
No luck from Tesco each time.
Finally on third time, wandered into council industrial unit, to end, climbed bank, could see the other Railcare 08, and ID name with bins, then saw wasp stripes of end of another in shed - had to be 730 as they were the only two there. Happy days.
No photo tho, so will be heading to Barton in the coming days!!

The very same. As i've said above, my initial theory was that 08730 was owned by Railcare, but looking at TOPS, it is amongst the Fastline locos. So, can i presume that it is Fastline owned ??

Interesting, in what way is it showing as a Fastline loco on the system?

I could be reading it all wrong, but this is what TOPS comes up with.

Here you go Phil, just for you,
http://i1008.photobucket.com/albums/af210/concretebob/08730-2.jpg
I managed to bash a few nettles and branches down this afternoon, cause the path was vastly overgrown. The style is close to falling to bits aswell, so i'd be a bit careful on climbing over it. That's unless you want to be the 4th Bee Gee
A quickie update on what's at the LH Group.
08077 is still dumped in the yard.
08785 is parked next to the path.
08691 & 08730 is on the next line, with 08730 nearest the building.
08823 & 08891 are parked in the last line, futhest away from the path, with 08891 nearest the building.
No sign of 08873 though.

Afraid so, RC for the 08s equates to Railcare.

So they are owned by Railcare after all

Pool allocation doesn't necessarily indicate ownership though. It certainly used to be Railcare owned as it was included in the sale of the works. I suspect the mentioned sale is relatively recent and TOPS has not been updated to reflect this, unsurprisingly.

I did originally say that it was owned by Railcare, but 37898 said it wasn't. He hasn't replied since, so i'm not sure on who actually does own it.
Looking on Wikipedia, it does look you are spot on Si, so i'm going to stick with Railcare as the owner. That is unless somebody can tell me any different.

Did not reply as awaiting a response from a mate who works at Wolverton, he states that both Springburn and Wolverton pilots are owned by Alstrom and leased to their respective locations.

Alstom was the previous owner of both Springburn and Wolverton but it sold both works to Railcare in 2007. I'd be surprised if the sale didn't include the works shunters but you never know?
