Whilst being used as the station pilot at Hull, 08782 was transferred to the WSXX pool and storage on the 15th August 1999. This was due to a pending overhaul, possibily at Doncaster.
To mark the opening of an upgraded facility at the Castleton Corus plant, 08782 was named Castleton Works. The naming, taking place on the 23rd May 2002, was unveiled by Nigel Smith, an EWS general infrastructure manager. To complement the naming, the 08 was also repainted in the Corus silver livery.
From Castleton, the shunter was removed by road on the 26th April 2004, being deposited at Warrington the same day. Three days later ( 29th ), 08782 was transferred into the WNTR pool and storage. After completion of repairs, the Corus liveried 08, left Warrington on the 3rd December, en-route back to Castleton, to where it was unloaded shortly. On the 13th, it was officially reinstated back to traffic and the WRWM pool.
Previously working at the Corus sidings, 08782 left Castleton on the 10th December 2006, being deposited at Warrington.
By the 21st April 2007, it was transported to Cardiff Tidal. Six days later though, Margam was its new home, awaiting attention to a leaking cylinder head and other mechanical and electrical faults. With repairs completed, 08782 was moved back to the Tidal sidings, where it suffered shifted cranks. Taken to Eastleigh by road, it was deposited in the yard on the 24th August 2007.
Sometime during late February / early March 2008, and repairs finished, it was moved to Fowey Docks, replacing Bescot bound 08865. With the arrival of 08921 at Fowey Docks though, 08782 was taken away and deposited at Newport ADJ on the 2nd July. Dumped at East Usk yard around the 28th July, 08782 was awaiting removal to Margam for repairs. Sometime during the 31st July, 08782 was taken away from Newport and deposited at Cardiff Tidal, where it could be seen working in the CELSA complex.
Out of use for a short while, 08782 was put into store on the 4th March 2009, transfering from WSSI to the WNTS storage pool. For needed repairs, on the 4th July, it was tripped the short distance to Cardiff Canton, haulage provided by 08567. On completion, it was returned to traffic, being moved back to Tidal and its previous WSSI pool.
