During the first week of February 2004 and whilst at Toton recieving an E exam, the 08 was fitted with the TPWS equipment and the EWS colour scheme was applied. By the 27th March, and overhaul all completed, 08798 was returned to traffic, seeing use around the depot and yard complex. On the 1st April, it left the East Midlands by road and taken to West London, to where it was deposited at Old Oak Common later the same day. Sometime during the early part of May, 08798 was tripped the short distance to Wembley, where it spent some time piloting the yard. On the 27th of the same month however, it was put into store, being transferred to the WNTR pool. Transferring into the WSLN pool, 08798 was reinstated back to traffic on the 28th June.
On the 1st June 2008, it left Millerhill to undergo repairs at Doncaster Carr. On arrival in South Yorkshire, it was consequently put into store, where it currently resides.
During the latter part of April 2009, 08798 had its TPWS equipment removed at Doncaster Carr. On the 24th July, the 08 was reinstated to traffic and the WSSN pool. Loaded onto road transport, 08798 left Doncaster on the 11th August. Departing for Eastleigh in the afternoon, it arrived in Hampshire the next morning, via an overnight stop-over at Newbury services. On arrival, the shunter was deposited at Eastleigh, where it saw use as one of the yard pilots.
Update: Due to suffering from contaminated fuel, sometimes towards the end of November, 08798 was taken out of traffic. On the 2nd December, whilst repairs took place, the 08 was placed into store, moving to WNTS from the WSSN pool.
