Wabtec hire loco 08834, from Doncaster, was taken south by road on the 23rd January 2004, en-route to Merehead.
Latterly at the DRS depot at Carlisle Kingmoor, 08834 was deposited at its sister site at Crewe Gresty Bridge on the 23rd January 2007, where it, for most of the period, sat unused for just over 2 years.
With it no longer owned by DRS, has been reallocated from XHSH to MBDL on the 7th January 2009. The next day and with it been purchased by HNRC, it changed once again, moving to Harry Needle's HNRL active fleet hire loco pool. With the ownership being passed over to HNRC, on the 22nd May, 08834 was rumoured to have left Gresty Bridge by road. This wasn't the case though, as due to the construction of a new shed on site, the depot doesn't have any low loader facilities. After the relevant paperwork was sorted, the DRS liveried 08, was dragged the short to Basford Hall, for removal by road. Sometime around the 25th May, it was removed by road and taken to Old Dalby, to where it is currently on hire to SERCO.
