On the 12th January 2004, 08871 was due to recieve a new power unit whilst at Doncaster Wabtec. Upon completion, it left South Yorkshire and was deposited at Ilford, where it underwent tyre turning before returning to Norwich Crown Point. With Cotswold Rail securing a 5 year contract to supply shunters to the Network Rail sidings at March, 08871 was deposited at Whitemoor Yard on the 4th April. Sometime around the start of September, Cotswold Rail also finalised a 5 year deal to supply shunters at Daventry's IRFT. With this, 08871 was removed from Whitemoor Yard, and taken by road to DIRFT, being unloaded on the 8th October. During its stay though, it suffered derailment damage, and with road transport arriving on the 10th November, 08871 was taken away for repairs. Deposited at Brush shortly after, work got underway on repairing the damage. On the 14th December, the Cotswold Rail liveried 08 was released from the Loughborough works, and was taken away by road to Rugby, where it was put into use as the yard pilot.
Along with 08847, it did act as the depot pilot at Norwich Crown Point T&RSMD, but around the 20th July 2008, 08871 left Norwich by road, en-route to Wabtec for repairs.
Currently residing in the sidings at West Yard, adjacent to Doncaster station.
