During a open day at Bletchley TMD, 08874 was named Catherine, after a member of staff who worked at the depot. Taking place in August 1999, the ceremony was a private one, only attended by employees and relatives.
Whilst undergoing a overhaul at the LH Group in early April 2004, 08874 was fitted with the TPWS equipment.
With no use for a shunter, the former Bletchley T&RSMD pilot was taken away by road to Meldon Quarry / Dartmoor Railway on the 19th December 2007.
It stayed until the 14th April 2008. Two days later, it was deposited at Doncaster Wabtec for an immediate overhaul. After completion, 08874 left Doncaster by road and was deposited at the Mid Norfolk Railway, Dereham on the 19th or the 20th June. To cover for the removal of 08871 at Norwich, 08874 was hauled from Dereham to Norwich Crown Point, sometime around the 20th July, by a class 47.
On the afternoon of the 25th July 2009, 08874 suffered a serious fire. Whilst collecting a rake of MK3 coaches from the station, on return to Crown Point, the shunter caught fire. At the time, the extent of the damage was unknown. With assessment and repairs completed, the 08 was back in traffic shortly after.
