On the 13th January 2004, at Immingham, all repairs were completed and 08886 was released back into traffic. The 27th February though, saw it put back into store, still at Immingham. After a short period out of traffic, the EWS liveried 08, was removed by road on the 8th October, leaving Immingham for Glasgow. Following an overnight stop-over, the 08 continued its journey, being deposited at Polmadie the next morning ( 9th ). Subsequently, it was reinstated on the 11th, being moved to the WRSC pool.
Latterly at Sheerness, sometime around the 12th June 2008, 08886 left Kent and was deposited at Toton, replacing 08703, which headed in the opposite direction. After being utilised as the yard pilot for just over 4 months, the 29th October, saw EWS put 08886 in to store. On the 16th December though, 08886 was reinstated back to traffic at Toton. Sometime around the end of December, 08886 was once again, put back into store at Toton TMD.
On the 6th February 2009, 08886 loaded onto road transport at Toton, departing en-route to Bescot to where it underwent a lengthy stint of repairs. On the 10th March, it changed pools, swopping from WNTS, to WNTR. On the 19th September, it was moved from WNTR to the WFMU pool. During this time though, repairs were still being carried out inside Bescot TMD. Released into traffic sometime around the 29th / 30th September, 08886 was put to use as one of the yard pilots. Following on from its reinstatement, the 08 moved pools once again, being placed in the more appropriate WSSN on the 1st October.
