On the 25th June 2004 and due to being out of service, the EWS liveried 08939, was stored WNTR at Bescot TMD.
While at Margam, sometime in late October 2006, was fitted with multiple working equipment for blue star multiple workings. On the 12th December, with all modifications completed, was transferred away from South Wales, being deposited and placed outside the paint shop at Toton. Five days later, 08939 was outshopped, sporting the Euro Cargo Rail grey livery.
With little use in and around the depot complex, the shunter was officially put to store on the 9th May 2008 at Toton TMD. On the same day, 08939 was transferred from WSSF ( EWS fleet services ) to WSEN, a new pool which was created for Euro Cargo Rail shunters.
Along with sister loco 08738, 08939 has been earmarked for a trip to Europe. On the morning of the 24th April 2009, it was loaded and removed by road from Toton, en-route to Southampton docks. After a weekend stop over at Goodmans yard ( 25th-26th ), it continued its journey south on the 27th, being taken by ferry to Rouen in north western France, via the English channel. From here, it will work in the Vallourec steel complex.
