Class 08/09 - Revised Maintenance Facilities South Wales
I understand that East Usk fitters will now be responsible for maintaining the Tidal fleet of Class 08/09's. This is very good news as one of the fitters was Swindon Works trained, a former member of Canton Depot's Shunter Gang, but above all, very passionate about maintaining the fleet in good working order.
I understand all is not well with 08466's transplant and a visit to Toton or Doncaster may be inevitable. 08466 has never performed well since its return to south wales in June 2006. Two years ago there were similar problems and the main generator was changed alongside a couple of voltage regulators.

What facilities are available to the chaps at East Usk? Will they be travelling to Margam to carry out heavier repairs on the locos?
Do you know who is seeing to 08466 at Margam? I presume its the Margam fuelling squad, or is it travelling staff from elsewhere?

No more facilities than what is there at present. Margam Depot has officially closed for repairs and special sanction has been given to work on 08466, 59201, 60074.....
Two Margam fitters changed the auxillary generator, but it wasn't them that suggested all is still not well with 08466. Having been away for a week, I havn't had the opportunity of talking with the fitters that worked on it.
