Doncaster carr closing

hi was informed yesterday doncaster carr is being flattened to make way for a hitachi hi speed train build center . I was told by a donny carr fitter

This can't have been a spur of the moment decision surely. If a train building plant has been under consideration, the company concerned could have moved into the Works before that closed.

If Carr does close where will it's fleet of locos be stored / allocated? Toton can't have that much more dumped on it.

Where ever they move the shunters to, i hope it's more accessable than Carr  Confused

It was suggested in RAIL that DR is being considered, as one of many possible sites for the Hitachi depot, none of the others being in Doncaster.

Doncaster Carr is only used for shunter repairs these days I think, since their class 66 workload passed over to Toton. It does seem quite pointless to have a single facility dedicated solely to shunter maintenance, no wonder DBS are so keen to rid themselves of the type.

EWS only dedicated Ferrybridge to shunter overhaul/repairs to stop FHH getting their hands on it. Otherwise shunter repairs would have gone to another heavily utilised depot.

Which brings me to..... Ayr looks like it might be closing in the near future, as DBS has put the land up for sale.

If a sale goes ahead, a new fuelling point will be erected by Newton on Ayr station. I would imagine that 09103, stored there since the 9th May 2008, would be put up for sale aswell.

I'm fairly sure that EWs would offer jobs at Toton Depot as they did with Margam Depot. The ex Canton Depot painter transferred from Margam to Toton last week. Good luck Gerald.

tthere is going to be a fueling point the other side of the mainline from where carr is
