En route to CardiffWent to see the Mighty Reds in Wales today, so took the chance of popping in a few places on the way...
Ashchurch. Nothing.
Found the railway lines (from M5, come over railway line, past front entrance, turn left at the end of the complex, along the side, cross a mini railway bridge (line lifted) and turn left along the back of the complex.
Follow this and you have a decent view of the yard at the back across fields, but all I could see was a rake of wagons and a yellow Unilok-like shunter.
You could possibly see the 01s working during the week, but it's a narrow road with nowhere to park.
Toddington. Yorkshire 372 in the station sidings. Staff/volunteers just blanked me at the depot gate, seeing me and walking away.
A drive towards Winchcombe meant a green 08 (D4095) could be seen on shed, across fields, but not good enough for a picture.
And onto the Dean Forest Railway. Couldn't have been more different, really friendly and helpful.
At Norchard Junction, I was escorted up the yard to get pictures of both Class 14s (D9555/21) by a very friendly and chatty volunteer (apparently D9555 is out of action awaiting a heat exchange transfer unit or something)
Then drove to Lydney Jctn, 08734 and 473 parked next to the station, while another 08 was in a marquee-type shed by the road. Pic end on, but no number on the side (believe this to be 08238).
Next stop MoD Caerwent and again nothing. FOund the railway line in, but it disappears behind hills/trees. Only buildings to be seen seemed derelict, did see a couple of lorries right in the distance in the camp, but they seemed the only indication of life there at all.
Finally, ADJ, one EWS 08, but at far end of yard, too far for photo (believe 567).

I thought Arsenal played at home this weekend

In my previous experiences at Toddington, i've had the same aswell. I even went to the trouble of emailing them last year i think it was. As we was doing the open day at Long Marston, i asked if it was possible to drop by and have a walk around the shed. The guy i emailed, said yep, no probs - just ask for me at the gate. Got there, spoke to one of the fitters at the gate, and he told us no. I wouldn't have minded if he had said - sorry mate, no can do. But his attitude was shocking, saying that i ain't got time to show spotters around, this is a working line !
If i didn't need most of stuff from there, i wouldn't bother going again. But i do, so i'll have to go at some point. Won't be spending any money though

He had your full attention then

Yep, would've been 08238 ( 13308 ), as you've mentioned the only other 08's at the DFR.
