Wigan Springs Branch

From Kingmoor yard, 08662 has arrived at Springs Branch in the last couple of days, presumably for repairs / attention.

It joins the resident depot pilot, 08877 and the former Warrington Arpley shunter, 08897. The latter is still undergoing wheelset repairs after arrival in May.

08921 is rumoured to be joining the trio from Fowey Docks in the next week for possible repairs, before heading down to South Wales after completion.

An EWS 08 was seen going north on the M6 on a low-loader on friday morning around the Stafford area - could this have been 08921?

It quite possibly could be Frank. As far as i know, there are no other shunters lined up for a move.

Cheers for the gen  Wink

Will SP turn into the new AN as a location for 08's in various states of repair/demise??

It's looking likely Phil. It could be that SP are trying to ease the workload from Doncaster Carr a little bit.

My source ( and he has let me down in the past  Confused ) has hinted that the two 08's at Allerton, are to be brought over by road to SP, and are to be used as spares donors.

Whether the moves goes ahead, remains to be seen.

Which 2 08's are these. Thought there were more than 2 at AN?

397 & 954. I think they are both safely tucked away inside the depot.

I'm not even sure that they are still both in use. Although officially, the pair of them are stored, but i think the depot still sees use as a wagon repair shop, so the staff will need something to shunt them around.

I did hear rumours that Allerton will close in the not to distant future, but that story has been banded about for a while now and nothing has happened yet, so it is probably just a rumour.

It was suggested that Allerton depot would close when the EWS/Virgin(Arriva XC) class 220/1 maintenance contract expires. I don't know weather this has occured yet, but the depot has been run down for a while. However, Carlisle Currock WRD no longer recieves a trip working from Kingmoor according to Freightmaster, so this depot may have closed instead/too?

Finally, I think 09 204 has been returned to use as the Tyne Yard wagon works shunter. Judging by some fotopic shots... Can anyone confirm???

I think Currock has long been shut down. Went there early last year and it looked derelict. Didn't manage to get inside, but the security guard said i could drive in to turn round. From what i could see, all the windows where boarded up and the depot doors looked like they hadn't be used in months. All the tracked was overgrown and rusty aswell.

Then popped in again while up there for the DRS open day, and nothing had changed. Still couldn't see the 08's either, which i was slightly annoying, as i need them both  Rolling Eyes

As for the 09. I noticed aswell that it was pictured in use. It's still officially in store, and the last i heard, it was showing on TOPS as WNXX, the pool code for locos stored unservicable. Obviously, it looks like its been repaired. Which is good, cause maybe i can get a decent photo of it of when i pop in after the Heaton open day  Cool
