Thanks for all your photos and info, Rob.

I've just been looking through the possibles for this one. Out of all the EWS liveried 08's, i can only come up with two, and one of them was a long shot.

08597 - Thornaby resident & DBS owned. As there are no shunters, currently part of the recent sale, i'd be very surprised if this had moved on. Saying that though, Martyn Nevatt has suggested that the Thornaby class 56's, are to be cut up on site, and none of them are available for sale. So this could be a possible, but highly unlikely.

08896 - I can't decide on this one, as Robs photo shows that the livery has started to fade into a salmon pink colour. I don't think its livery has faded to the extent of the one at Thomson's, and i can't find a recent photo of 08896, taken from the side that Rob took, so i'm giving up  Confused

Now, where did i put the asprin  Rolling Eyes

Could possibly be the case, 08411???.  If not possibilities could be 08441 from Colne valley or 08694 from Great Central, 08695 from Barrow Hill. Has 08913 expired at Boulby!!!!!! as you cannot see the EWS branding.

Who knows, will all come out in the wash.

08411 - Not a chance, given that this is in blue  Rolling Eyes

08441 - Not this one. Overhead warning sign is to far away from the front end. The one at TJ's is immediately next to it.
http://geoffsangliaphotos.fotopic.net/p57347649.html

08694 - Not this either. 08694 has no writing after the overhead sign, situated nearest the cab.
http://simonsrailwaypics.fotopic.net/p61510188.html

08695 - Nope. Cantrail stripe doesn't go over the wasp stripes.
http://ockle.fotopic.net/p61527398.html

08913 - I've had to have a really good look at this one, but the overhead sign is to far away from the front end. So this a no also.

I think it is 08597, one of the Thornaby demics. Very faded, both the EWS lettering and the livery. The cantrail stripe continues over the wasps, and the overhead warning sign is immediately after the front end. Also, the 2nd warning sign has lettering after it, just like the one at TJ's.

A superb analysis Steve in favour of the prognosis that the mystery shunter will be confirmed as 08597,using all the available material facts and applying both logic and experience to arrive to a persuasive conclusion that,I am confident, will not be challenged.

Top work Steve-thats why you are held in such high esteem by members of the forum.

Mind you I'll laugh my chuffin' head off if you're wrong Wink  Smile

The mystery EWS 08 has got to be 08402.

Both the mystery 08 and 08402 have the same livery details.

Second, compare the photos of the mystery 08 with these photos that crazylegsbob took of 08402 at TJT in April.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr358/crazylegsbob/untitled-1.jpg
http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr358/crazylegsbob/P3070015.jpg

Both shunters have a metal stanchion on the radiator directly in line with the cantrail stripe. At first it does indeed look like some part of the TJT infrastructure in the foreground, but its obviously not connected to the girders plus its in the exact same position in all four photos despite being taken months apart.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr358/crazylegsbob/unknown.jpg

Fingers crossed. Wink

Rhys.

So did 08587, when it arrived at TJ's. Not sure what the girder is actually for though.

But, saying that, you are absolutely spot on Rhys. You can uncross them pinkies now  Laughing

08402 has faded EWS lettering. And comparing Rob's photo to one taken at Motherwell in 2006, there are scuff marks on the roof ( 2nd panel from the nose ). Everything matches, even down to the dirty streaks, just below the exhaust.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr358/crazylegsbob/unknown.jpg

So, despite reports suggesting that 08402 had been scrapped at the end of August 2009, Rhys has just proved that it wasn't.  Cool

Y'know, i'm sure i can hear some bugger laughing  Rolling Eyes

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr358/crazylegsbob/old402.jpg
http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr358/crazylegsbob/oldoneof402.jpg

and the present ews 08x2 phots. Shocked
http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr358/crazylegsbob/new08.jpg
http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr358/crazylegsbob/newoneof402.jpg

and a lot of editing to produce this photo, sorry but picture quality  is poor due to zoom and edits but it will give you something to compare. Laughing
http://i499.photobucket.com/album.../crazylegsbob/theoldandthenew.jpg

402 it is then [laugh]

and on my reports  i state they have disappeared with little evidence of scrapping apart from the odd bit of shunter and one chassis which is still there.
regards crazylegsbob. Cool
