08495 was the final shunter to be overhauled at Ferrybridge and it was released back into traffic on the 5th January 2004 at Knottingley. By the 7th January though, it was removed and taken south to Toton by road. Working in the adjacent yard at Toton since its arrival, on the 31st January, it was back on a low loader, awaiting removal to Thornaby. Upon reaching Teeside on the 2nd February, 08495 was officially put into store on the 27th. By the 15th March though, it was reinstated back into traffic.

Latterly seeing use at Carlisle Kingmoor, it was transferred down to Tavistock Junction in October 2007. By the December though, it moved to Westbury, where it spent just 9 months.

After suffering from unknown faults at Westbury, 08495 was loaded onto road transport on the 29th September 2008. It departed late evening, en-route to Doncaster Carr for repairs or possible storage. And on the 29th October, 08495 was officially transferred into the WNTS pool and storage. Sometime around the 14th December, 08495 was deposited at Toton, arriving in by road from Doncaster Carr. Whilst inside the shed, work started on repairing its cranks. With new wheelsets fitted also, it was rumoured to have the remote control equipment installed, being donated from Wigan's resident demic, 08921. On completion, 08495 is expected to be moved to Cardiff Tidal Sidings.

Being removed from Toton on the 10th November, 08495 headed north to Mossend, not Cardiff Tidal as first thought. With an overnight stopover, the 08 continued its journey the following morning, replacing the previous pilot, 08993. Whilst there, the 08 is to be used for remote control training. Three days after its arrival ( 13th ), the EWS liveried 08, was officially accepted into traffic, moving to WSSN from its previous WNTR pool.
